Safety

In a Vehicle-to-Vehicle Frontal Crash Prevention 2.0 test conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the GMC Acadia achieved a “Good” rating - the highest possible - for its performance in forward collision warning and automatic braking systems, demonstrating its excellent capabilities in preventing collisions. The Infiniti QX60 has not been tested.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the Acadia AT4’s standard Hill Descent Control allows you to creep down safely. The QX60 doesn’t offer Hill Descent Control.

Both the Acadia and QX60 have Rear Cross Traffic Alert, but the Acadia has Rear Cross Traffic Braking (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The QX60’s Rear Cross Traffic Alert doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the Acadia and the QX60 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, front seat center airbag, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, front wheel drive, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, available all wheel drive, front parking sensors and driver alert monitors.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does 35 MPH front crash tests on new vehicles. In this test, results indicate that the GMC Acadia is safer than the Infiniti QX60:

There are over 8 times as many GMC dealers as there are Infiniti dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Acadia’s warranty.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that GMC vehicles are more reliable than Infiniti With 13 fewer problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, J.D. Power ranks GMC higher than Infiniti.

Engine

The Acadia’s 2.5 turbo 4-cylinder produces 60 more horsepower (328 vs. 268) and 40 lbs.-ft. more torque (326 vs. 286) than the QX60’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder.

As tested in Motor Trend the GMC Acadia is faster than the Infiniti QX60:

Fuel Economy and Range

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the GMC Acadia uses regular unleaded gasoline. The QX60 requires premium, which can cost on average about 84.9 cents more per gallon.

The Acadia FWD’s standard fuel tank has almost a gallon more fuel capacity than the QX60 (19.4 vs. 18.5 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups. The Acadia AWD’s standard fuel tank has 3.2 gallons more fuel capacity than the QX60 (21.7 vs. 18.5 gallons).

Brakes and Stopping

The Acadia stops shorter than the QX60:

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Acadia Denali’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the QX60 (275/45R22 vs. 255/50R20).

The Acadia Denali’s optional tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the QX60 Luxe/Sensory/Autograph’s 50 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Acadia Denali offers optional 22-inch wheels. The QX60’s largest wheels are only 20-inches.

The GMC Acadia’s wheels have 6 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The Infiniti QX60 only has 5 wheel lugs per wheel.

Suspension and Handling

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Acadia’s wheelbase is 6.7 inches longer than on the QX60 (120.9 inches vs. 114.2 inches).

The Acadia Denali AWD executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the QX60 Autograph AWD (27.5 seconds @ .63 average G’s vs. 28 seconds @ .6 average G’s).

For greater off-road capability the Acadia Elevation has a greater minimum ground clearance than the QX60 (6.8 vs. 6.7 inches), allowing the Acadia to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The Acadia AT4’s minimum ground clearance is 1.1 inches higher than on the QX60 (7.8 vs. 6.7 inches).

Chassis

The front grille of the Acadia uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The QX60 doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The Acadia uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The QX60 doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

Passenger Space

The Acadia offers optional seating for 8 passengers; the QX60 can only carry 7.

The Acadia has 1.8 inches more front headroom, 2.2 inches more front legroom, .4 inches more front hip room, 1.4 inches more front shoulder room, 2.5 inches more rear headroom, 3.8 inches more rear legroom, 1.7 inches more rear hip room, 2.3 inches more rear shoulder room, 2.5 inches more third row headroom, 4.1 inches more third row legroom, 3.4 inches more third row hip room and 2.3 inches more third row shoulder room than the QX60.

Cargo Capacity

The Acadia’s cargo area provides more volume than the QX60.

Pressing a switch automatically lowers the Acadia Denali’s second and third row seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The QX60 doesn’t offer automatic folding second row seats.

Towing

Trailer Sway Control (TSC) is standard on the Acadia, using the StabiliTrak® sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. A trailer sway program costs extra on the QX60.

Ergonomics

The Acadia’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The QX60 does not have an oil pressure gauge.

If the windows are left open on the Acadia the driver can close them all from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can also lower the windows the same way. The driver of the QX60 can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The Acadia’s optional Enhanced Automatic Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, stopping and changing direction automatically. The QX60 doesn’t offer an automated parking system.

Recommendations

Consumer Reports® recommends both the GMC Acadia and the Infiniti QX60, based on reliability, safety and performance.

The GMC Acadia outsold the Infiniti QX60 by 76% during 2024.
