To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the Envision has standard Rear Cross Traffic Alert with Rear Cross Traffic Braking, systems which detect vehicles approaching from the sides and can automatically apply the brakes to prevent a collision. Parking Support Brake costs extra on the Crown Signia Limited, and isn't offered on other Crown Signia models.

Both the Envision and the Crown Signia have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and available front parking sensors.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does 35 MPH front crash tests on new vehicles. In this test, results indicate that the Buick Envision is safer than the Toyota Crown Signia:

The Envision’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the Crown Signia’s (6 vs. 5 years).

The Envision has a standard “limp home system” to keep drivers from being stranded if most or all of the engine’s coolant is lost. The engine will reduce its power and light a warning lamp on the dashboard so the driver can get to a service station for repairs. The Crown Signia doesn’t offer a lost coolant limp home mode, so a coolant leak could strand you or seriously damage the truck’s engine.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Buick vehicles are better in initial quality than Toyota vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Buick above average in initial quality. With 17 more problems per 100 vehicles, Toyota is rated below average.

Power ranks Buick second in reliability, above the industry average. With 19 more problems per 100 vehicles, Toyota is ranked fourth.

As tested in Consumer Reports the Buick Envision is faster than the Toyota Crown Signia:

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the Envision’s fuel efficiency. The Crown Signia doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

Both the Envision and Crown Signia have a standard automatic start/stop engine feature to stop unnecessary fuel waste and pollution at stoplights and heavy traffic. The Envision has a standard disable switch for the system, so a driver can keep the engine from shutting off when the vehicle stops temporarily.

The Envision has 1.6 gallons more fuel capacity than the Crown Signia (16.1 vs. 14.5 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The Envision has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The Crown Signia doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

The Envision stops shorter than the Crown Signia:

For better traction, the Envision has larger standard tires than the Crown Signia (235/60R18 vs. 225/55R19). The Envision Sport Touring/Avenir’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Crown Signia (245/45R20 vs. 235/45R21).

The Envision has a standard space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the Crown Signia; it requires you to depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.

The Envision offers an available continuously variable suspension system. Using sensors on steering angle, speed and other driver inputs, the shocks soften to improve ride, or stiffen when appropriate to aid handling on tricky roads or off-road. The Crown Signia’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

The Envision’s drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The Crown Signia doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.

For better maneuverability, the Envision’s turning circle is 1.5 feet tighter than the Crown Signia’s (38 feet vs. 39.5 feet).

The Buick Envision may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 150 to 250 pounds less than the Toyota Crown Signia.

The Envision is 11.4 inches shorter than the Crown Signia, making the Envision easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The front grille of the Envision uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Crown Signia doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The Envision uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Crown Signia doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The Envision has .5 inches more front headroom, .4 inches more front hip room, 2.2 inches more rear legroom and .9 inches more rear shoulder room than the Crown Signia.

Standard Trailer Sway Control (TSC) on the Envision uses the StabiliTrak® sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The Crown Signia doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

The Envision uses gas struts to support the hood for easier service access. The Crown Signia uses a prop rod to support its heavy hood. It takes two hands to open the hood and set the prop rod, the prop rod gets in the way during maintenance and service, and the prop rod could be knocked out, causing the heavy hood to fall on the person maintaining or servicing the car.

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Buick service is better than Toyota. J.D. Power ranks Buick 9th in service department satisfaction (above the industry average). With a 20% lower rating, Toyota is ranked 24th.

The Envision’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The Crown Signia does not have an oil pressure gauge.

The Envision has a standard heads-up display that projects speed, tachometer, navigation instruction, infotainment and driver assistance information readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Crown Signia doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the Envision has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The Crown Signia doesn’t offer cornering lights. The Envision also has standard adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle.

The Envision’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Crown Signia has an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

The Envision Avenir has standard massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the Crown Signia.

The Envision Avenir has a 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The Crown Signia doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

The Envision Avenir’s Enhanced Automatic Park Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting and stopping automatically, with the driver only responsible for switching from reverse to drive. The Crown Signia doesn’t offer an automated parking system.

Consumer Reports® recommends both the Buick Envision and the Toyota Crown Signia, based on reliability, safety and performance.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Envision second among compact suvs in owner reported satisfaction. This includes how well the vehicle performs and satisfies its owner’s expectations. The Crown Signia isn’t in the top three in its category.

The Buick Envision outsold the Toyota Crown Signia by almost five to one during 2024.
